No-Go Songs in a Wedding Playlist

Everyone has different tastes in music, from country to alternative to death metal. Music is meant to be listened to and enjoyed, and at the wedding, it needs to be enjoyed by the bride and groom and the majority of the reception. Now, the song list you give your Perth wedding DJ is never going to please everybody; however, if you want the majority of your wedding party burning holes in the dance floor we suggest you tell the wedding dj to give these beats a miss on your big day.

The No-Play List

We Are Family - Sister Sledge

This is an oldie, but only a goodie if you are trying to reenact a scene from Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Hot in Herre - Nelly

Whilst this may bring back nostalgic feelings from our pre-teen years, it’s a pretty polarising song. This being played can go either of two ways - wrong or worse. The oldies at the reception will either watch judgingly as the younger of the group proceed to dance erotically on the dancefloor or, even worse, the older members of the reception (I’m talking parents, grandparents, and Uncle Bob), will proceed to dance erotically on the dance floor themselves. Ain’t nobody wanna see that!

Every Breath You Take - The Police

Whilst this song is beautiful, the wedding reception is supposed to be about celebrating the happy couple, and a song about a breakup can serve as quite the buzz kill. Not to mention this track has an extremely stalker-ish vibe to it.

Macarena - Los Del Rio

This song will be a hit for all of two minutes. Once you’ve done the Macarena once, you’ve done it a thousand times. So unless you're planning on only doing a snippet - avoid this group dance number all together.

Staying Alive - BeeGees

This is a classic, however, it may not be the sing-a-long classic you're looking for. I challenge you to sing the next line, “Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk I’m a woman’s man: no time to talk”... Can you do it? Bravo if you can, but if you fall into the common “no” side, you are not alone as the majority of your dancefloor under the age of 35 won’t either.

Happy  - Pharrell Williams

This song was great when it first came out, and it was played the initial hundred times. With almost one billion plays on YouTube, you’ve heard it, we’ve heard it, everyone has heard it. It’s best to retire this track from the wedding playlist as it has unfortunately been played a few too many times.
